At Home Elegance with Love

By Lara Becker

Valentine’s Day can be the epitome of luxury if you plan it right. But it doesn’t take a village or a day out on the town — some of the most special moments can be found right at home with the people who matter most. Here are some ideas to bring high-end sophistication home.

Unique flower arrangements:

Rose Boxes and Menorah Flower Displays

It’s time to ditch your standard bouquet from the grocery store. These days, companies across the globe are creating arrangements that stand out from the crowd. RoseBox NYC organizes custom-designed, preserved rose bouquets that last an entire year. There’s no maintenance required for keeping them fresh every single day, and they come in a variety of sizes, shapes, and material from glass to reflective mirrors. You can personalize each step of the process, including the roses, and even inscribe a message on the RoseBox. “Our team of florists hand arrange every RoseBox, carefully selecting each rose to ensure they are super fresh, buoyant and beautiful!” says Gal Yakir from the RoseBox team.

Apeloig Collection takes an entirely new direction in this area, placing flowers in menorahs for a gorgeous display. Menorahs are available in five translucent colors: blue, smoke, burgundy, multicolor or white, and can be used as either the candle holder or a vase. When you’re ready to use the menorah as a vase, metal cups in each section can be removed, and filled with water to keep the flowers fresh each day. “We love how the flowers look in the display. It really makes a statement,” co-founders Daniela and Gabriela Apeloig, note in an interview. “When you can display the bouquet in a special way it really takes the flowers, and the thoughtfulness of the gift, to another level.”

Virtual cooking classes with Jen & Jamey

Cooking together can be a great way to spend your night, but can often come with unnecessary stress. Instead of planning it all yourself, bring some professionals onto your team for the night. Co-owners and husband-and-wife team Jennifer Earnest and Jamey Evnoiuk originally started Chef’s Garden Catering and Events, a renowned catering and event company in Florida — but the pandemic drew this to a halt. Just a year later, Jen & Jamey’s Virtual Cooking Classes are a rousing success. They’ll help you to learn to cook from the ground up, and from the comfort of your own home. For the utmost convenience, Jen and Jamey ship all necessary ingredients to your front door once your class is selected. “We have something decadent and delicious in the works,” say the pair of this year’s V-Day offerings. “This is like the ultimate date night. We take all the heavy lifting out of the cooking process. It’s the best of both — quality time and learning something new!”

Modern Puzzles

After your delicious meal, settle in with a collaborative, hands-on activity. Puzzles have truly made a comeback, with growing popularity for nights spent at home. Clean off your nearest table, and pour out the pieces from Modern Puzzles, taking the market by storm with Midcentury Modern designs on each of their creations. “Valentine’s Day is all about expressing how much you love, care and appreciate the people in your life,” notes the creator and graphic designer Gavin Levy. “Grab a glass of wine, open a box of chocolates, and work on the puzzle together.” From Desert Sunset, Frost and Fire, and retro Billy’s Burgers, there are plenty of options to dazzle you once the pieces come together.

Finding your perfect couch

By the end of the night, you’ll want to relax together in comfort and in style. Boca Do Lobo furniture designs come in handy for planning ahead on this special occasion. Press Officer Marta Tuna says that the company’s couch designs are perfect for V-Day. “Boca Do Lobo has the most luxurious, but, at the same time, cozy sofas to enjoy a relaxing time with your other half,” she says. Examples include the Imperfectio Modular Sofa for an electric “chaise lounge,” or the Versailles sofa for a romantic, artistic piece. Either direction you go in, she says, will be a statement for your Valentine’s design.
